Project Updates

  • Derbyshire Creative Heritage Conference

On May 27th we delivered the 3rd Derbyshire Creative Heritage Conference, online this year due to the continuing restrictions.
We would like to thank our wonderful and generous speakers, Panya Banjoko and Anna Vinegrad and our delegates, who all contributed to the success of the event.
Both speakers gave enlightening and thought-provoking presentations around the theme of Activism for Social Change, which continued as the topic of conversation in the breakout sessions. Delegates from around the country entered into a lively discussion about Activism and how the Arts can contribute towards raising awareness of issues and imparting a message.
Here are one or two comments from delegates about their experience of attending.

‘I’ve had a fabulous and inspiring time’. DC

‘Thanks to all in our group for a lively discussion. Lots to take away from this’. CB

‘This has been amazing, thank you so much!’. JB

Attendees also took part in an arts activity, to make a Heritage Data Selfie. Led by artist Cora Glasser, delegates assembled various data relating to a heritage asset to make a creative visual statement.

A final thank you must go to Foundation Derbyshire, who supported the conference by awarding a grant towards the costs.

Creswell Gets Creative

After a long period of absence, we’re now planning for the resumption of the Creswell Gets Creative project in late June. Artists are being booked for the upcoming programme as the project enters the final phase of delivery and we have some very exciting activity lined up. Workshops already booked include learning traditional and contemporary marbling techniques and another pottery session, building on the success of a previous workshops at the potter’s wheel.

The project funders, the People’s Health Trust have been interviewing members of the group for an article about how we adapted during lockdown and what the future holds and we met up for a photograph in Creswell on the first day of summer. Everyone was delighted to see each other again as these comments illustrate.

‘Oh happy days looking forward to our get togethers’ again’.

‘Happy times with lovely people. Looking forward to meeting up again soon.’

First Art

On Saturday 29th May we kicked off the bank holiday weekend with the ‘Pop-Up Picnic’ at South Normanton. Junction Arts, working with First Art brought people back together to enjoy live music, circus workshops, The Poetry Takeaway and some tasty local food and drink!

The glorious sunshine made for a wonderful afternoon for families and friends to dance to Back Chat Brass and hula-hoop with Symoné and Green Top Circus.
Staff and residents from Hollies Care Home came along and said: “A massive thank you to First Art for arranging a lovely pop-up picnic within our local community we all had such a wonderful day.”
