Portfolio Review Awards

Cash prizes, editorial commissions and a 20 print portfolio are just some of the amazing awards that will be presented to the winners of the FORMAT19 Portfolio Review Awards.

The prizes will be presented during the FORMAT19 Grand Award Night on Saturday 16th March at 7.30pm.

There are places still available with our expert reviewers, so make sure you book your review to have a chance of being selected for one of awards.

The FORMAT19 team are delighted to present the new Guardian Portfolio Review Award. Picture Editor [News] Karin Andreasson will select and present this prestigious award which will include one year's mentoring by senior editors at The Guardian and a paid for commission to be undertaken during the year. 

Malcolm Dickson is pleased to announce the second Street Level Photoworks Award for the FORMAT19 Portfolio Reviews. Selected from the Portfolio Walk by representatives of Street Level the winning photographer will be offered an exhibition during the 6th Season of Photography in Scotland which runs from September to November 2020

The GRAIN Portfolio Award, in collaboration with FORMAT will include a cash prize of £350 plus 2 one-hour mentoring sessions to be taken within one year. The GRAIN team will select a winner after viewing all the portfolios during the Portfolio Review Walk

One lucky photographer will be selected at the Portfolio Review Walk to win the Spectrum Award of 20 C-type prints, made in conjunction with a master printer at Spectrum's lab in Brighton.

Long-time friend and supporter of the FORMAT festival John E Wright will once again present £100 worth of printing to one photographer attending the Portfolio Review Walk.

The winner of the FORMAT Reviewers' Choice Award will be presented with a £100 cash prize at the FORMAT19 Grand Award night to be held at QUAD.

Lensculture Portfolio Review Award

The online platform will create and publish a feature about a photographer selected from the FORMAT19 Portfolio Reviews, presenting them to Lensculture's interntional audience

Shutter Hub Portfolio Review Award

One photographer will receive a year's membership of Shutter Hub, have their portfolio featured on Shutter Hub’s award-winning blog and receive a mentoring session with Creative Director Karen Harvey.

As part of the FORMAT19 Grand Award Night, performer Doug Fishbone will present Luft Gesheft, his first major new live work in several years, and his longest performance piece to date.

Looking at everything from Pablo Escobar’s hippopotamuses, Polynesians taking vacations in Hull, to Richard Nixon and the Gold Standard, the piece is a comic slide-show lecture  illustrated with hundreds of images downloaded from the internet.
