Sign up for new summer term of adult education courses

Residents are being invited to sign up to learn something new this summer with our Adult Community Education Service.

Bookings can be made from Monday 19 March 2018 for hundreds of daytime and evening courses and activities on offer this year providing opportunities for people to study for new qualifications or explore new hobbies and interests.

The summer term starts on Monday 9 April 2018 and residents can view the course listings and sign up online.

Our Cabinet Member for Young People Councillor Alex Dale said:

"We have a fantastic range of courses on offer this summer for residents looking for a career change, discover a new hobby or develop their personal skills.

"We have free courses including CV writing, interview skills, English and maths and paid-for courses in subjects ranging from construction and IT to arts and crafts."

Students can gain professional qualifications in practical skills such as plastering, bricklaying and plumbing at our Training and Skills for Construction Centre in Holmewood, near Clay Cross and the Toolbox Centre in Gamesley, near Glossop, which residents can sign up to at any time throughout the year.

There are also free courses to help people get back into work such as English and maths, CV writing, job applications and interview skills, advice on starting your own business and a range of traineeships and apprenticeships to help get young people on a career path.

Other subjects include arts and crafts, cookery, upholstery, computing, health and wellbeing, languages, interior design, first aid, fitness, IT, childcare, personal development and opportunities for families to learn together.

Councillor Dale added:

"Our full course list is available on our website or residents can pick up one of our 'What's on' leaflets from their nearest library or adult community education centre."

Gift vouchers are available in denominations of £5, £10, £20 and £50 which can be put towards the cost of courses.
