The story of circles ...

Walking in Circles’ is a collection of paintings and drawings by Sue Lewis-Blake that will be exhibited at the gallery during February. They are part of an on-going project inspired by some of the stone circles found in the peak district – the nine ladies circle in particular.
Various compositions and media have been employed to explore the theme and the pictures aim to capture something of the ways in which these ancient places still resonate with us today. We wonder at the arrangement and forms; we perhaps hold, climb or sit on the stones; objects and notes are left hanging in the trees nearby; people come and go through the landscape and the circle echoes that of the sun, casting shadows that become an integral part of the scene.

Sue also runs regular drawing workshops at the gallery and is an experienced art teacher. See more information about our workshops below.
