Street Art Success for DCG Students

Visitors to Melbourne Arts Festival in South Derbyshire were treated to a series of street art installations created by students at Derby College Group (DCG).

The level three Art and Design students, who are based at the Joseph Wright Post 16 Academic and Arts College, made colourful and thought-provoking work for the art and architecture trail.

The theme of this popular part of the village’s annual creative and performing festival was ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ and attracted thousands of visitors over the weekend.

In addition to the street art installations, eight students were nominated for the festival’s emerging artist award.  Sheraz Pervez who has now gone to the University of Manchester to study Fine Art won a £500 bursary towards his degree and Aredee Pericieous won the Public’s Choice Award.

DCG Art and Design teacher Phil Taylor said: “This has been a wonderful opportunity for students to work towards a real-time brief as part of their Art & Design study programme.

“The students and their families thoroughly enjoyed joining the thousands of festival visitors to see their creations in situ over the weekend.”
