Sum Secured For JWC Rag Week

Students and staff at Derby College’s Joseph Wright Centre have raised just over £1,000 for three charities at their annual RAG week.

A wide range of competitions and activities were organised throughout the week and the money raised has been split between local charities Children First Derby, The Breakfast Club initiative in the city which is the College’s designated charity this year and to Cancer Research UK.

The IT level two tutor group which raised the most money - £100 – have also received a trophy presented every year in memory to former maths teacher John Moakes who was heavily involved in RAG Week before his sudden death a few years ago.

And IT student Jed Fowler has also been singled out for praise for raising money individually for the Breakfast Club – providing morning meals to children at city primary schools – through a sponsored run.

Head of the Joseph Wright Centre Stacey Adams congratulated all the students who took part in the RAG Week. “We are extremely proud of everyone’s efforts which has resulted in this amount going to three worthwhile causes.

“The activities were an opportunity for students to learn new skills, make new friends and have a lot of fun.”
