Discover the beautiful valley that changed the world

One year later than planned (due to COVID-19), we have finally been able to launch  Derwent Valley Tours, a new visitor service  offering tours of the beautiful and unique Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site.

The tours will enable small groups to enjoy a full day’s tour by minibus from either Derby or Matlock, led by experienced volunteer guides. They will visit the key historical locations of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site, as well as many lesser-known ones, giving a unique and intimate perspective on a valley that changed the world.

Operated by the Arkwright Society and the Belper North Mill Trust, this new venture has been made possible by a grant received from the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site Great Place Scheme, funded by National Lottery Heritage Fund and Arts Council England.

The tours include a comfortable and COVID-safe minibus, a friendly, knowledgeable guide, and meal options provided by quality local caterers.

Full details and booking are on their webpage: www.derwentvalleytours.co.uk

Ministerial visit for National Volunteers Week

Baroness Barran, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State (Minister for Civil Society) visited us on 3rd June, as part of her National Volunteers Week tour of the East Midlands. She showed a real interest in the work that our volunteers do for us here at Cromford Mills, as well as an understanding in how crucial their role is. Our volunteers not only allow us to function as a successful Heritage attraction, but also enables us to continue the work started 50 years ago with the formation of the Arkwright Society.
