Support your Orchestra
Derby-based orchestra of the East Midlands, Sinfonia Viva, is appealing for support from its fans.
Sinfonia Viva is asking concert ‘goers’ who watch the Hannells Darley Park “At Home” virtual concert on Sunday August 30 to donate the usual price of the ticket (£5), or whatever people can afford, to help secure the Orchestra’s future.
The virtual concert is being provided and funded by Derby City Council free of charge this year and is available online from 6pm via BBC Radio Derby’s Facebook LIVE and iplayer and on BBC Radio Derby.
Sinfonia Viva usually performs at the outdoor concert in front of thousands of people every year and chief executive Peter Helps said that the players shared everyone’s disappointment that this year’s event could not go ahead as originally planned.
He said: “The Hannells Darley Park Concert is the highlight of the year for us all at Sinfonia Viva and we are just as disappointed as everyone that the pandemic has stopped us from performing in person at the annual favourite this year.
“However, we hope that concert fans will watch the online concert from the comfort of their homes and gardens this year and help keep the spirit of this important event alive in 2020.
“Covid has obviously put paid to a busy programme of concerts, community and education work that we had planned this year and this has hit us financially in a way we couldn’t have anticipated at the start of the year.
“As a registered charity, we make a difference to the lives of many people and I hope that the fans will help to ensure we can continue to perform at future concerts, by donating on our website.”
This year’s Hannells Darley Park Concert “At Home” online performance will feature highlights from last year’s concert, commentary, new performances by Sinfonia Viva and singing sensation Andy Quinn as well as interviews.
As well as celebrating live music, the event is known for its sense of community spirit, so to capture this in the most unusual of circumstances, viewers and listeners can post photos and messages with #Darley20 on their own Twitter or Instagram, or on the @DerbyLIVE Facebook page, to appear on the event’s Social Media wall.
