Take part in: It Takes A Region To Raise An Artist

We need your support in contributing to and circulating and a survey that will benefit the East Midlands visual arts community.
You can access the survey at https://tinyurl.com/Visual-Arts-Survey-EM
This survey is part of a research project, It Takes A Region To Raise An Artist, the aim of which is to develop a detailed understanding of the visual arts sector in the East Midlands region. The research focuses on: visual arts practitioners, the places and spaces, and the facilities and resources that exist to support them. It will assess the strengths of the sector, identify gaps in provision, and explore the potential of the visual arts’ economy. The research is being undertaken by Dr Antoinette Burchill at The CAMEo Research Institute, University of Leicester in partnership with Contemporary Visual Arts Network East Midlands (CVAN EM). The project is funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and Midlands4Cities.

The survey is relevant to everyone in the visual arts community. This includes artists, and those working in galleries, studios, art centres, artist development agencies, HEIs, creative industry agencies, learning initiatives, festivals, heritage sites and museums.
Our definition of visual arts includes fine and applied arts, crafts, fine art photography and artist moving image, socially engaged art practice, live art and performance, new media and digital arts. The survey focuses on the East Midlands region and includes: Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire, and Rutland.
Short term win: we want to hear about you, your arts practice or organisation, your achievements, and the barriers that prevent you from meeting your potential. By taking part you have the chance to win one of four High Street Voucher prizes.
Long term gain: CVAN EM will use this research to develop commissions and projects in 2020-2022 that enable you to realise your ambition and build on your strengths.

Elizabeth Hawley-Lingham, Director, CVAN EM stated: ‘This research will play a vital role in identifying what is needed in the East Midlands to accelerate the growth of a vibrant, flourishing visual arts sector. Working in partnership is essential and we very much hope, as a key stakeholder in the sector, that you will take part in this survey, and encourage people in your networks to participate in it.’
