Tender Opportunity – Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site – Visitor Centre Options Appraisal and Feasibility Study

We have a new tender opportunity on behalf of the DVMWHS Partnership as part of the Great Place Scheme.

Information can be found on the East Midland Tenders portal at :  East Midlands Tenders - DVMWHS Tender Opportunity

The Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site (DVMWHS) Partnership seeks to appoint a consultant to investigate, evaluate and report on options for a DVMWHS Visitor Centre as part of the North and East Mills site in Belper.  The DVMWHS Visitor Centre needs to be focussed on the heritage, stories and offer of the DVMWHS’s ‘Central Hub’ as well as communicating and engaging people with the overall Outstanding Universal Value of the world heritage site. The Options Appraisal for a Visitor Centre is an opportunity to inform efforts to secure the heritage for the future, increase the range of cultural opportunities and contribute to sustainable tourism within the DVMWHS.

Interested parties will need to log in or register for a free account. Any queries should be submitted via the tendering portal.

A survey of the current condition of the North and East Mill complex, including the watercourses under the mills, is due to re-commence in early March working with the landowners, FI-REM, with grant funding to facilitate the survey. These two pieces of work will provide a large degree of information about the mills’ current state, requirements to secure the fabric of the buildings and a future for the North Mill to develop as a visitor attraction highlighting the heritage at the centre of the world heritage site.
