Tomorrows Engineers at Merrill Academy

Year eight pupils at Merrill Academy in Allenton had a fascinating and interactive insight into the careers available in engineering during a day-long workshop.

A team from Tomorrow’s Engineers, led by Engineering UK and the Royal Academy of Engineering, visited the school as part of its nationwide programme to inspire the next generation of engineers.

Pupils took part in a wide range of demonstrations and experiments including a model trebuchet that fired marshmallows into an internal combustion engine modelled using bottles, bicycle parts and flammable gases. Other practical activities included programming robots and quizzes.
