Triathlon Fever Set To Continue in Derby

Triathlon Fever Set To Continue in Derby

With a hugely successful Jenson Button Trust Triathlon under their belts, Derby-based Huub Events have announced their second triathlon event for the city.

More than 500 novice, amateur and professional triathletes joined a host of celebrities including Jenson Button and Gordon Ramsay for the event which was based at Markeaton Park on Sunday (July 12).

Meanwhile, entries for the Derby City Triathlon are now being accepted.  The event will be held on Sunday 6th September 2015 at Moorways swimming pool and athletic track.

The event will include swimming, cycling and running events at different levels - making it suitable for novices and experienced triathletes as well as a junior event for eight to 14-year-old competitors.

Huub Events Race Director Claire Duffin explained: "With all the excitement surrounding the Jenson Button Trust Triathlon, we were keen to have a follow up event happening shortly afterwards in the city.

"We had thousands of people at Markeaton Park on Sunday and lining the cycle route into the Cathedral Quarter and the feedback from many of the spectators was that they would love to now have a go at a triathlon.

“The Derby City Triathlon will be the perfect event for people of all ages and experience in triathlon which is the UK's fast growing sport.

"This will provide another competition opportunity for those who have recently caught the 'triathlon bug' and our aim is for Derby to become a triathlon city with a host of events for people to take part in and to enjoy watching.

The swim will take place in the 33m pool, then a bike route through the local area past the famous Rolls Royce factories before an off road run which will finish on the athletics running track.  The transition will be in the centre of the running track.

There will be something for everyone including a Junior Triathlon (100m/2.5km bike/1km run) for 8 to 14 year olds, a Super Sprint (200m – 10km bike – 2.5km run)and Sprint Event (400m –20km bike –5km run).
