University Firsts for Derby College Agriculture Students

The first students from Derby College’s new level 3 Agriculture study programme based at Broomfield Hall in Morley have secured places at university.

James Boa (18) from Borrowash and Chloe Culyer (19) from Chesterfield have both secured places at Reaseheath Agriculture College in Nantwich to study a Foundation degree in Agriculture.  Bethany Rains (18) from Belper has offers from both Reaseheath and Harper Adams University in Newport and is considering her options.

James has a long family background in farming has his sights set on dairy herd management either in the UK or abroad. 

Meanwhile both Chloe and Bethany are keen to follow careers in artificial insemination and genetics following work placements organised by the College.

Chloe said: “This has been a brilliant course with lots of industry visits and work placements which has definitely broadened our horizons and helped us with our university applications.”

Derby College Team Manager Jon Collins said: “All these students originally came to Broomfield Hall from school on level 2 programmes and progressed to the new level 3 which we launched last year.

“We are very proud of their achievements in gaining places at university with a view to careers in agriculture and they will pave the way for other students to follow their lead.”
