Wathall’s Donation Secures Future Of Derby Stroke Club

Family-owned funeral directors, Wathall’s, have presented a cheque for £1,230 to Derby Stroke Club.

The money was donated by those who attended Wathall’s annual Service of Remembrance and Hope at Derby Cathedral in the run up to Christmas to remember loved ones who have passed away.

Wathall’s choose a different charity to receive the donations and selected Derby Stroke Club in recognition of their work to support people who have themselves suffered a stroke or are caring for a family member.

The club has around 35 members who meet every other Friday afternoon at St Mary’s Parish Centre in Derby for activities such as visiting speakers, chair-based exercise and social events.

Chair of Derby Stroke Club Barbara Saccaggi received the cheque on behalf of the members from Bec Wathall – the sixth generation of her family to work at the company.

Mrs Saccaggi said: “We are very grateful for this support which will particularly pay for transport so that our members can attend the meetings as many of them are unable to drive or use public transport.

“With this donation, we can ensure the future of Derby Stroke Club for another full year.”

Helen Wathall, who is Managing Director and the fifth generation of her family to head the company, added: “We ask for donations at the annual Service of Remembrance and Hope to help charities that support people at difficult times in their lives.

“Derby Stroke Club is a lifeline for many people and I am delighted that this money will make a difference to their members’ lives.”
