Cost: £7.50 (Limited places, advance booking recommended. Priority booking for Arkwright Society members, public booking opens on 28th September)

Join Gregory Monks from English Heritage as he tells the fascinating story of Wingfield Manor and the people who lived there - starting with the builder, Ralph de Cromwell, a key minister in the government of Henry VI in the period leading up to the Wars of the Roses. It was home to Bess of Hardwick and Arbella Stuart, and prison to Mary, Queen of Scots. It was fought over in the Civil War, slighted by Parliament, and declined in its latter days to a romantic ruin. It has been sketched and painted by Turner, visited by Dickens and long since been home to a family of tenant farmers who are the present owners of the property.
