Whitworth secures funding from Cultural Recovery Fund
The Whitworth is proud to announce it's successful application for grant funding from the Government's Cultural Recovery Fund and a visit from Sarah Dines MP.
The Whitworth, situated in the Derbyshire Dales, is proud to announce that it has been awarded funding as part of the government’s Cultural Recovery Fund. The money will support The Whitworth to continue it’s vision to promote the wellbeing of the community and further afield. The Whitworth, a charitable trust, is celebrating it’s 130th birthday this year and we continue the legacy left by Sir Joseph and Lady Louisa Whitworth. We have plans to connect to our community through cultural programming, promoting well-being and becoming a destination venue. We are proud to have remained open during lockdowns, providing vital resource for our community in a challenging year. The Whitworth is a heritage building set in 10 acres of parkland bordering the Peak District.
Alan Long, Chair of The Whitworth Trust said; “We are pleased to have secured this grant funding, which means we will come out of lockdown in a sound financial position and looking to invest in new services, as well as ongoing essential maintenance costs. The Whitworth is a charity, reliant on income to operate 365 days a year (even during lock- down). Having 90% of our services that support income, closed has been a challenge. We have risen to this challenge and we now look forward to the next year with confidence."
Sarah Dines MP, representing the Derbyshire Dales and having visited The Whitworth, said; “I was delighted to meet the new General Manager of the Whitworth Centre, with representatives of the trust. I was pleased to hear their extensive plans for expansion as we come out lockdown. The Whitworth Centre is a wonderful local asset with a fantastic social history and must be supported. I was so pleased to hear they had received £50,400 from round two of the Government’s Culture Recovery fund, which will help support them with these new projects."
