WIRKSWORTH FESTIVAL ONLINE 2020, FRI 11 – SUN 13 SEPTEMBER

Wirksworth Festival has commissioned acclaimed filmmaker, Gavin Repton, to create a short film in celebration of its annual Art & Architecture Trail, as the centrepiece of its first Online Festival, taking place on its Facebook channel from 11 – 13 September 2020.

Co-created by 30 artists in lockdown, this new film, Made in Wirksworth: the Virtual Art & Architecture Trail explores the rich and diverse creatives that make up the vibrant artist community of Wirksworth. It has been filmed by each individual artist in their homes, studios and in the landscape and offers a unique glimpse into the lives and work of the town’s artists, how they've been working during the lockdown, and their relationship to where they live and practice.

Wirksworth Festival Online 2020 will also feature a weekend programme of handpicked performance events from its extensive local performing arts community, plus a series of talks and interviews exploring contemporary art, how the town has responded creatively to the lockdown and a look at some past Festival highlights.

Made in Wirksworth: the Virtual Art & Architecture Trail will premiere on Friday 11 September at 8pm on our online channels as well as at the Northern Light Cinema’s Outdoor Screening event at Haarlem Mill at the same time. The rest of the programme will take place on Sat 12 & Sun 13 September on Facebook.
