WOULD-BE SINGERS INVITED TO JOIN DERBYSHIRE’S NEWEST CHORUS

Would-be singers are being invited to audition for Ignite UK – Derbyshire’s newest women’s chorus.

The four-part harmony a cappella chorus launched in Belper in five months ago is now busy building a repertoire of contemporary, pop and barbershop songs. It already has its sights set on national competition and a number of performances lined up and is ready to expand.

Ignite UK currently has 41 members and potential new recruits are now being invited to go along to meet the chorus, take part in a physical and vocal warm-up and have a sing themselves. Anyone interested can contact the Ignite UK membership team and attend a Thursday night rehearsal or go along its recruitment evening on Thursday 29 September.

Ignite UK musical director Doug Harrington said: “We’ve got off to a great start building our repertoire and are now ready to open our doors to new members. “There will be a warm welcome for all would-be new recruits coming along to our rehearsals or our recruitment evening. You don’t need any previous experience or be able to read music – just the ability to hold a tune and a willingness to work hard. “Our aim is to be an award-winning chorus performing nationally as well as locally with members who love music and enjoy singing together. It’s a fantastic hobby and a great way to make new friends.”

Ignite UK’s open evening for new members (minimum age 16) will take place at Fleet Arts, The Fleet, Belper, Derbyshire, DE56 1NU on Thursday 29 September at 7.30pm. Weekly chorus rehearsals take place at the same venue and same time. Visitors who are interested in joining the chorus will be invited to start the audition process. For more information, to request a rehearsal visit or a place at the recruitment evening email Ignite UK’s membership secretary Ellie Reynolds on ereynolds_55@hotmail.com
