Recycling Everything but the Kitchen Sink

Exhibition
This exhibition will focus on Dom’s most recent artwork where he has been exploring ownership, possessions, waste and recycling.

The exhibition is part of a series of work that he has been working on for several years now and explores his relationship with Africa where he once worked, lived and still travels to on a regular basis.

Dom comments: “For the last eleven years I have been spending time in the Omo Valley in Southern Ethiopia with the Hamar people and my art has reflected the conflict I feel between my life in Ethiopia and my life in Derby. In my artwork I have tried to find out who I am as an artist and what I want my art to say.”

“Although most of my recent work continues to look at my impressions of Hamar society contrasted with the growing influence of western lifestyles, all of the work uses recycled materials; old canvases, furniture, discarded objects and thrown away items – pretty much everything but the kitchen sink.”

The exhibition, at Banks Mill Studios on Bridge Street, Derby, DE1 3LB will include three large scale artworks, along with drawings and a display of toys and objects made from recycled objects of African origin.

The exhibition will run from 9 – 25 August and is open week days 10am-3pm – please ring 01332 597866 to guarantee entry.
