Writing a Novel - The Practical Way. With Alex Davis

Writing workshop
The ideal prep session for those about to embark on NaNoWriMo! But also useful for anyone looking to write a novel in general.

About this Event
This two-hour session will look at the key approaches to writing a novel and getting it completed, starting from the importance of the planning process and working through the importance of routine and positive habit-building in getting a book finished. We’ll also take a look at the ups and downs of getting that story written, and how you can tackle those moments where your energy and enthusiasm may begin to wane. This session would be suitable for writers taking part in NaNoWrimo 2020, anyone looking to write a novel in general or authors who have battled with novel-length fiction before.

An online workshop via Google Meet.

Alex Davis is an author, tutor, lecturer and event organiser who has been active in literature in and around Derbyshire for 15 years. His published works include the novel The Last War and the non-fiction book Martyrs: A Personal Perspective, alongside a wide range of short stories and poems. He has been teaching creative writing to adults for more than a decade, and is an Associate Lecturer in Creative and Professional Writing at the University of Derby. His column Fantastic Realms gives advice on genre fiction writing each month in Writing Magazine. As an event organiser he is best-known for Derby’s annual Edge-Lit event, and has worked on a host of conferences and conventions around the UK.

An evening LoveLit writing workshop for adults, part of the writing ambitions workshop programme presented by Arts Derbyshire.
