The Buxton Spa Prize will again attract and encourage artists of all ages and abilities to paint the town in the open air (en plein air) during May and June. The prize which was successfully launched in 2014 aims to raise the profile of artists and their work and further enhance Buxton’s national reputation as a centre for arts and culture.

Helen is Derbyshire’s current Poet Laureate and the fifth to be appointed the position. Helen is a multi-award winning poet who recently published her first full collection, “Division Street” which was shortlisted for the T S Eliot Prize and the Costa Prize.

There are many local authors in Derbyshire making an impact on the contemporary literary scene, most notably of all perhaps is Hilary Mantel who hails from Glossop.
