Ready to roll….Derbyshire MP visits Luke Evans Bakery following investment

East Midlands bakery Luke Evans has invested £75,000 in new equipment which will allow it to produce up to 9,000 bread rolls per hour. The new machine gives the Derbyshire family run bakery an extra 50% capacity for roll making and has been purchased in response to increased demand.

Amber Valley MP Nigel Mills recently toured the bakery at Riddings, near Alfreton, to find out more about one of the oldest family run bakeries in the country and to meet some of the 50-strong workforce at Luke Evans, which was founded more than 200 years ago.

Croots Farm Shop hosts ghost evenings for Duffield Arts Festival

Ghostly goings on are being served up at Croots Farm Shop in Derbyshire as part of the very first Duffield Arts Festival.

The award-winning farm shop in Wirksworth Road is hosting three very special ghost evenings which will combine entertainment and hospitality. Running on 14th, 15th and 16th September, each event has a limited number of around 30 tickets available, which include a meal in Shires Eatery at Croots. Only a handful of tickets remain for the Friday performance, however, but tickets are still available for the Wednesday and Thursday.

Football Fun and Games Raise Money For Event Charities

Staff at Derby and Ashbourne independent funeral directors G Wathall & Son have raised £554 for a wide range of charities at a number of summer events.

The family-owned firm attended several community events including those in Etwall, Chellaston, Oakwood, Little Eaton and Chaddesden to promote its funeral, pre-payment plans and bereavement support services.

Visitors to their stand were also invited to test their goal scoring skills with donations going towards the different events’ chosen charities.

Derby College Reaches Final Shortlist for IMI Industry Award

Derby College has been shortlisted for a national award by the motor vehicle repair industry body in recognition of its work to train young people and support local businesses.

The Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) has this week announced the finalists for its prestigious Outstanding Achievers national award and Derby College is one of three training centres in the UK to make the shortlist.

BURBAGE ART GROUP LOOKS FOR NEW MEMBERS

Following its successful Buxton Fringe exhibition enjoyed by over 60 visitors, Burbage Art Group is preparing for its autumn season and hoping to attract new members.

The classes run in school terms starting on Wednesday September 7th at the Burbage Institute, Nursery Lane, Buxton from 7.15pm to 9.15pm. Organiser Rachel Slaney explains: “There is no formal course - people tend to bring their own projects and materials - but September is a great time to start when everything feels new and people are rested and inspired from their summer holidays.”

Local Artist Returns to Little Explorers Nursery with Award Winning Display

Derbyshire artist Victoria Brown has returned to Derby College’s Little Explorers Nursery at Broomfield Hall to show the pre-school children how their work helped earn her a top award at the recent RHS Tatton Park Show.

The Bean Project is part of the United Nations 2016 Year of the Pulse and has involved Victoria and the children planting beans at Broomfield Hall and two local primary schools – Dale Primary School and Weston-on-Trent Primary School.

Teams Invited To Take Up the Flint Bishop Challenge at New Oktober-Vest

Businesses, community groups and clubs will have the chance to vie for a host of prizes in the Flint Bishop Team Challenge as part of the first Oktober-Vest men’s and boys’ running event in the city on Saturday October 1.

Derby-based HUUB Events has teamed up with Cricket Derbyshire to organise Oktober-Vest at the 3aaa County Ground and neighbouring Racecourse Park.

Oktober-Vest is designed to encourage men and boys of all ages to increase their activity, fitness and health. Entrants can run either 2.5km, 5km or 10km in a relaxed event without the pressure of timing chips.
