Greg makes his first Buxton Festival appearance…

It’s not the first time he’s appeared in Buxton, but it is in this guise! He was previously at the Opera House in the West End theatre hit THUNDERBIRDS F.A.B – based on the works of Gerry Anderson. And it was in that guise that saw him appear on TV with Buxton’s well-known musical son, Lloyd Cole.
Greg explains, “I admit it was back in the 1980’s. We were both on some TV magazine programme – me pretending to be a Thunderbirds puppet, and Lloyd Cole with The Commotions at the time. I remember chatting to the bassist as they were about to go to America for the first time and were so excited. We got on pretty well, so I was invited to a gig they were doing in Liverpool that night. I went backstage afterwards then we all went to a nightclub to meet Echo and the Bunnymen! I still remember it well. I saw him in Brighton playing solo recently and said hi afterwards. It was great to reconnect, briefly.”
As for performing Spoken Word – Greg says, “It’s inclusive and escapist, so I do stuff about Daleks, Batman, tattoos, trophy wives, veganism, plus anecdotes and one-liners… it’s always moving forwards. It makes what I do hard to define…”
