Hannah Lobley: Collect 2021
I'm feeling more optimistic for 2021 and excited to keep you all informed of the developments in my work. Even with galleries closed, great things are still happening in the art world as everyone adapts to the new ways.
It is the end of February and that can only mean one thing… it’s time for Collect 2021, the Crafts Councils prestigious international art fair for contemporary craft and design, taking place from 26 February - 2 March 2021. Collect Art Fair
Although in a different format due to pandemic, with a physical event not being held at Somerset House, the 17th edition of Collect has moved online and is now live on artsy.net. Collect 2021 | Artsy
I am so pleased to be exhibiting and to be represented for the second successive year at this leading event, by Ruup & Form.
What Ruup & Form say about Collect…
“Our theme for the exhibition for Collect 2021 couldn't be more timely. The works presented are in response to the pandemic and what unravelled through the world as a consequence. Every work is a deeply personal reaction to 2020 and the pandemic.
Through the theme of ‘Meditation in Material’, Ruup & Form would like to give that space in our minds, a physical existence. Never before has a need to ensconce been greater. Our home has become our sacred safe temple. The collaborating artists have responded to that stillness and chaos of the last few months that affected them individually”.

New work for Collect - Balance 2020
For Collect 2021 I have produced a new piece in response to the emotions and life of last year.
‘Balance’ was inspired after my family’s visits to the coast after lockdown. My husband’s parents live in Bridlington and there is a lovely rockpool beach nearby that we visit. Our young boys love playing and looking for sea creatures with their nets and we spent hours stacking rocks, to see how high we could get them.
Just being in a different environment, away from home and by the sea blew the cobwebs away and we just felt all our shoulders drop as we breathed the fresh sea air. We relaxed and the anxiety of lockdown disappeared…even if it was only just for a few hours.
We felt renewed after our days at the beach, but I also wanted to show the fragility of the situation, one moment you would feel steady and stable, you have everything under control, but the just one slight nudge could send you tumbling, just like the pebbles at the beach.
There is also an opportunity to join me and my fellow makers represented by Ruup & Form, talking online about our work and processes. Register now on the links below to hear us chat and learn about our peers practises.
