Level Centre has launched a new group for Neurodiverse and Autistic young people aged 14-18 to access contemporary arts experiences, outside of school and home.
A special early evening Service of Remembrance and Hope will be held at Derby Cathedral on Thursday December 8, organised by family-owned funeral directors, Wathall’s.
Wathall’s, which is Derby’s longest established independent funeral directors, has organised the memorial service since 2008 - inviting families who have lost loved ones during this and past years.
They will be joined by members of Dandelions Bereavement Support groups in Derby and Ashbourne as well as representatives from local churches, charities, hospitals and nursing homes.
In 2021 LEVEL Centre launched the Level Residency Lab, a research and development opportunity for professional artists who either identify as disabled or whose work has access at its heart. Since then, and with support from Arts Council England, LEVEL has supported 17 artists who have bold, ambitious ideas that strengthen the charity's mission to ‘Celebrate the Art that Difference Makes’ and bring high quality art to rural Derbyshire.
A public-access defibrillator has been installed outside Wathall’s funeral directors in Duffield Road, Allestree, following a community fundraising appeal.
The equipment is registered with East Midlands Ambulance Service and anyone alerting the emergency services to a suspected cardiac arrest is provided with an access code for the defibrillator if appropriate.
The £1,600 fundraising campaign to buy and install the equipment was spearheaded by city councillor for Allestree, Steve Hassall, whose sister tragically died from a heart attack earlier this year.
Saturday's Christmas Light Switch-On event in Derby city centre was a huge success, drawing an estimated crowd of 5,000 people. Hosted by Smooth Radio breakfast presenter Gareth Evans, the afternoon saw a multitude of local talent on stage and in a lantern parade led through the city centre.
Residents, businesses and community groups across the borough are being invited to have their say on local plans to reduce the impact of climate change, as part of Chesterfield Borough Council’s ongoing commitment to tackle the climate emergency.
By taking part in the new survey, people can help shape the council’s next climate change strategy which will set out how the authority will continue to reduce its own environmental impact, while working with the community to lower emissions across the borough.
