Plans for the regeneration of Staveley town centre released

Revised proposals for the multi-million-pound regeneration of Staveley town centre have been released by Chesterfield Borough Council, following Government approval to allocate additional funding to the project.

The six-million-pound Staveley 21 project has been in development over the last year following publication of the Staveley Town Centre Vision Masterplan which received strong public support in November 2021.

The proposals – which are funded through the Staveley Town Deal – were shared at a meeting of Staveley Town Council on Tuesday night.

Council partners with Chesterfield FC to deliver family friendly fireworks event

 

Chesterfield Borough Council is again working with Chesterfield Football Club to deliver the family friendly fireworks event in Stand Road Park.

1866 Sport, Chesterfield FC’s in-house radio station, will deliver the entertainment at this year’s event with Becky Measures hosting on the night. Confirmed acts include the return of the Disney Princesses performing well known songs. The fireworks theme will be decades, with the display set to popular sing-along songs from the 60s through to present day.

An award-winning Derbyshire sustainable business making outdoor furniture from recycled plastic is helping tell the stories of those who have passed on, with a highly innovative new memorial bench digital platform.

Wirksworth-based TDP Ltd, recently crowned with a coveted King’s Award for Sustainable Development, is launching ‘My Place and Story’ this month.

The platform will allow those who buy one of TDP Ltd’s commemorative benches in memory of a loved one to add a QR code so that anyone sitting on it can scan the code and read the life story of the person commemorated.

Derby caravan king Don Amott has urged local football fans to support high-flying Mickleover FC play “proper football” - after kitting out players to boost a much-loved charity of which he is patron.

The home kit worn by first team players at the club feature the distinctive logo of the Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre (DCHC) – a 132-year-old charity of which Don is patron, along with former Derbyshire Lord Lieutenant Willie Tucker and Sir Henry Every.

Council launches campaign to cut cost of recycling contamination

Derby City Council has revealed that the cost of processing and disposing of contamination (incorrect or dirty items) in recycling bins is currently costing £450,000 a year. Some of the most common problem items are bagged waste, used nappies, food waste, electricals, hard plastic, and plastic bags and films.

Things like food waste and leftover takeaways are particularly problematic as they spread in the collection vehicles, contaminating large amounts of otherwise clean and dry recycling.

Derbyshire housing trust bike project helps turn the wheels of fortune for former engineer

The wheels of fortune in the life of a former engineer from Derbyshire have been turned around thanks to a bike repair project run by award-winning Derventio Housing Trust.

 

Paul Hudson, 39, of Alfreton, is now working as a paid co-ordinator of volunteers for Bike Back Derby, where he uses his engineering skills in helping others refurbish bicycles, and in doing so supporting people to get fitter through cycling.

A LAW firm office manager based in the heart of Derby was so touched by seeing joyful children returning from holiday that she nominated the charity that provides their seaside trips to receive a donation from her firm’s charity fund.

East Midlands law firm Rotheras Solicitors LLP, whose Derby office is based on Amen Alley next to Derby Cathedral, has made a donation of £2,500 to the Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre.
