Four books have been shortlisted for the second Derby Book Festival Children’s Picture Book Award, which aims to celebrate picture books that children can relate to and in which the diversity and challenges of modern life are represented. Fourteen Derby primary school teachers selected the books from the original longlist of nine.
This year’s shortlist comprises:

Two Derby businessmen have once more laid down the gauntlet for others to join them for a weekend cycling challenge in Mallorca and Derbyshire in April – and brought their Olympian friends to Derby’s iPro stadium to formally launch the challenge.
Dean Jackson, founder and owner of triathlon kit specialists HUUB, and David Torrington, managing director of Sky Recruitment Solutions are planning the 200km challenge on April 16 and 17.
Magical princesses from some of the best-loved fairy tales will serenade guests at a special Easter afternoon tea at The Old Bell Hotel in Derby’s Cathedral Quarter on Saturday April 11.
‘A Tale As Old as Time’ will feature some of the stories’ famous characters from Cinderella to Belle for the two-hour tea party at the Sadler Gate venue’s Grand Regency Ballroom – complete with a fairy tale-inspired afternoon tea and Easter egg hunt.
QUAD in Derby has a new season of exhibition and events starting in February as part of its ‘Co-Lab Season’. Co-Lab is a five week-long showcase of newly co-commissioned work by two artists who usually employ traditional techniques such as painting, drawing or sculpture, but have taken their way of working into Virtual Reality digital realm or film works. The artists featured are Anna Bunting-Branch and Dryden Goodwin.
