School’s out but there’s plenty happening in Derbyshire this summer to beat the holiday boredom.
Whether you’re young, older, from Derbyshire or further afield there’s loads of interesting places to visit and things to see and do.
Why not re-live the history of Derwent Valley Mills – birthplace of mass-production and innovations which shaped the modern world?
Or check-out the network of caves at Creswell Crags – the limestone gorge dating back to the last Ice Age up to 50,000 years ago.
A fun-filled show for under 6s, their families and friends
‘Holiday’ at Derby Theatre this summer
Even the dragons in fantasy TV show Game of Thrones can help teach real history, Buxton International Festival heard during a debate on the blurring of lines between fiction and fact when describing the past.
So this year's 50th festival is going to be totally cool in every sense of the word.
☀ And because the weather's looking so good, and this is after all number 50, we're expecting a heavy turnout.
It looks like being very cosy. And remember NO Gazebos, pretty please!
Our beach garden is the perfect place to unwind and enjoy some quality time with a group of friends or the family. A real sun trap that you won't want to leave.
Funding decisions on the future of the NHS should be taken out of party politics and handed over to an autonomous body in the same way the Bank of England decides interest rates, former doctor and best-selling author Adam Kay told Buxton International Festival.
Adam published his book This Is Going To Hurt, which has sold more than 400,000 copies, to counter what he called the Government lie that the junior doctors’ strike had been about pay. The book is based on hilarious, moving and often heart-breaking entries in a diary he kept as he was training.
Derby-based Hubbub Theatre Company has clinched support to create a new promenade street theatre show that will be seen for the first time at this September’s Derby Festé.
Hubbub is an integrated ensemble of performers with and without moderate learning disabilities.
They have been awarded the annual Derby Festé commission and are currently developing their innovative show entitled ‘The (not so) Quiet Revolution of Kindness’ which they will perform in the Cathedral Quarter on Saturday September 29 – the final day of the festival.
