Celebration Event Marks Milestone For Iconic Cathedral Quarter Building

A horse-drawn coach arriving at the Old Bell Hotel in Sadler Gate will mark the start of a day of celebrations on Saturday July 4 for the completion of the £1.2 million restoration programme at the iconic building in Derby’s Cathedral Quarter.

VIP guests will arrive in the authentic coach at 12 noon – reflecting the historic past of the building which was Derby’s premier coaching in throughout the 17th and 18th centuries.

Derby North MP Lends Support For Lonsdale Pool Plans

The new MP for Derby North, Amanda Solloway, has backed efforts by Lonsdale Swimming & Sports Trust to build a new pool for the local community.

Mrs Solloway visited Lonsdale Pool in Mickleover to learn more about the Trust’s efforts to find a 1.5 acre site to build a new £4m pool in the west of the city that would replace the existing 45-year-old pool in Varsity Grange.

Eyam 350th Plague Commemoration: Peak Pilgrimage Summary

As part of the commemoration of the 350th anniversary of the plague, the people of Eyam Church are creating a permanent new pilgrimage route for walkers through the Peak District National Park – the 35 mile Peak Pilgrimage route from Ilam to Eyam - to be opened up in July 2015. This initiative is being supported by the Diocese of Derby and the Peak District National Park.

Meet TV Antiques Expert Charles Hanson in Bolsover

Visitors to next month’s Bolsover Antiques and Collectors Fair are invited to bring family heirlooms and car boot bargains to be valued by one of TV’s best known antiques experts.

Charles Hanson, who presents on BBC’s Bargain Hunt and Antiques Road Trip shows, will host a valuation session on Bolsover Market Place – just a short walk from Bolsover Castle – on Sunday 24 May. 

A native to Derbyshire, Charles runs Hanson’s Auctioneers and Valuers in Etwall, which holds international auction sales featuring a huge variety of collectables.

Patriotic Entertainment in Derby’s Cathedral Quarter

Derby Cathedral Quarter’s programme of Saturday entertainment continues on Saturday April 18 with a day of live entertainment on a St George’s Day theme and a showcase of handcrafted delights.

CQ Saturdays Knickerbocker Glorious will change venue for this month only – with the stage located in the Cornmarket between 11am and 3pm.

Meanwhile, CQ Saturdays Handcrafted at the Cathedral Quarter will be held under the Guildhall Arches between 10am and 4pm.

Businesses Join Forces To Spruce Up Area

Representatives from businesses across the St Peters Quarter area of Derby city centre will hold their first tidy up event of the year on Wednesday April 15.

The initiative is part of the Business Improvement District’s (BID) objective to improve the visitor experience in the area which is the core retail heart of the city centre between the Cathedral Quarter and Intu Derby shopping centre.

Renishaw Hall & Gardens – home to generations of writers – supports Derbyshire Literature Festival with a literary weekend; May 16 & 17

Home to the famous literary ‘trio’ - Edith, Osbert and Sacheverell Sitwell – Renishaw Hall in north Derbyshire will support the 2015 Derbyshire Literature Festival by hosting its own literary weekend featuring special tours of the hall focusing on the Sitwell family’s literary works and connections, and a creative writing workshop with the county’s Poet Laureate, Helen Mort.
