Canal Trust Plan To Launch River Boat Trips In City

Derby and Sandiacre Canal Trust are developing plans to launch boat trips on the River Derwent from Derby city centre.

Initially the trips would run between the Council House steps and the picturesque weir at Darley Abbey.

Moving forward, the full trip would ultimately travel through a new lock in the weir alongside the Council House and stretch to the Derby Arm boat lift that the Trust is planning to build on Pride Park.

The Trust recently enlisted the help of the Midland Canoe Club, based at Darley Abbey, to test the depths of the River Derwent.

New poem unveiled at Belper station

We’re delighted to have installed a new poster poem at Belper Railway station on Platform 1 – this is the only site on Beth’s Poetry Trail where the poem is changed from time to time.

The new poem appropriately enough is titled ‘Travel’ and it was written by Edna St Vincent Millay. Wikipaedia describes her thus: ‘Edna St. Vincent Millay was an American poet and playwright. She received the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 1923, the third woman to win the award for poetry, and was also known for her feminist activism.’
